Back in the day, Dana Point wasn’t even a community. Surf aficionados broke the waves and camped on the beach. It is at what is now known as Doheny State Beach that Southern California surf culture was birthed. From the invention of the Hobie Surfboard to the iconic Surfer Magazine, Dana Point is the center of it all. From the waves at Strands Beach in its small cove between Salt Creek Beach and the headland, or the Salt Creek Beach’s mighty waves, California’s original surf location is a fantastic place to live.
